In genere, iniziano così le sezioni delle recensioni dei siti. (C)lose ha raccolto l’attenzione di alcune fanzine e siccome sono cose che ci inorgogliscono un po’, ci piace l’idea di condividerle.

I Radar 5:11 di Carpi rilasciano questo secondo Ep strumentale composto da quattro tracce ed intitolato (C)lose, sviluppando un post rock alternative tutt’altro che scontato. […] strutturalmente si ha un apparato ritmico deciso e in continua evoluzione, mai fossilizzato sulla lentezza, ma piuttosto su un qualcosa di dinamico e divertente. Le chitarre si presentano in maniera coesa forgiando ritmiche semplici ed efficaci nei contenuti, forti di un utilizzo corretto di effetti puliti che rendono ancor più efficace il senso ed il messaggio trasmesso. […] Una discreta prova per la band e, per chi predilige l’alternative post rock con sonorità particolari, una particolarità da apprezzare tutta sino in fondo.

I Radar 5:11 mettono su questo interessante gioiello, fatto di strutture sentimentali, che orientano il percorso verso una produzione dolce e unica. […] In questo secondo EP in studio (C)lose, viene racchiuso tutto il lavoro, dell’ultimo periodo dovuto alla pandemia e tutta la situazione surreale, che ognuno di noi ha vissuto sulla propria pelle. Nelle quattro tracce preziose, si esplora un sentimentale passaggio sognante e di qualità.

25 febbraio 2023 – DAR Postrock, via Instagram
La variazione tra il post-prog energetico e le ambientazioni sonore è stata fatta veramente con gusto. È facile capire che i membri della band sono grandi musicisti e compositori, poiché ci sono molte parti e riff insoliti, ma incredibili. Ogni performance nell’EP è molto buona. Le chitarre e il basso suonano molto bene insieme, mentre la batteria eleva il suono a proporzioni enormi ed epiche. Dall’intensa “Growing Chains” alle melodie estremamente emozionali di “Acab“, tutto sembra grandioso ed epico.

17 marzo 2023 – Mix It All Up da Portsmouth, UK
Il progetto di musica strumentale post-rock italiano Radar 5:11 ha recentemente pubblicato questo inno intitolato “Hopes of Tomorrow”. È una traccia oscura con melodie e suoni atmosferici che si intrecciano per raccontare una storia senza parole, che si trasforma in qualcosa di veramente epico man mano che la traccia avanza.

22 marzo 2023 – Tome To The Weather Machine da Cincinnati, US
La band post-rock crea un suono estremamente dinamico, costruendo e rompendosi in nuove forme e configurazioni man mano che la traccia si gonfia e si frantuma. C’è un sentimento distintamente malinconico nella traccia che alla fine si trasforma in una festa trionfante. Come dovrebbero fare tutte le buone tracce post-rock.

E poi, martedì 14 marzo, succede anche una cosa ulteriormente inaspettata: Stefano “Cocco” Covili, durante la sua trasmissione Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space su Radio Antenna 1, ha trasmesso Wad, commentandola così:

Il nostro orgoglio si è conseguentemente pompato tantissimo. Infatti, Radio Antenna 1 è, per alcuni di noi, più importante di qualsiasi altra radio nazionale: negli anni della formazione, senza la programmazione di quella stazione, non avremmo educato quel “palato” musicale che abbiamo oggi. La puntata è disponibile via MixCloud: vi consigliamo di ascoltarla tutta, dall’inizio alla fine. Ne vale la pena.

The Carpi-based band Radar 5:11 releases their second instrumental EP titled (C)lose delivering an alternative post-rock experience that is anything but predictable. […] Structurally, there is a decisive and ever-evolving rhythmic framework, avoiding stagnation and instead offering something dynamic and enjoyable. The guitars come together cohesively, forging simple yet effective rhythmic patterns, supported by a skillful use of clean effects that enhance the overall sense and message conveyed. […] Overall, it’s a commendable effort by the band, and for those who appreciate alternative post-rock with distinctive sounds, there’s a uniqueness to be fully appreciated throughout the entirety of this EP.

Radar 5:11 puts together this interesting gem, made up of sentimental structures that guide the path towards a sweet and unique production. […] In this second studio EP, titled (C)lose, all the work from the recent period due to the pandemic and the surreal situation that each of us experienced firsthand is encapsulated. In the four precious tracks, a dreamy and high-quality sentimental journey is explored.

The variation between energeric post-prog and ambient soundscapes is really tastefully done. It’s easy to figure out that the band members are great musicians and songwriters, since there are plenty of unusual, but amazing sounding passages and riffs. Every performance on the EP is very good. The guitars and bass play off each other very well, while the drums elevate the sound into huge, anthemic proportions. From the pure intensity of “Growing Chains” to the extremely emotional melodies of “Acab”, everything feels grand and epic.

17th March 2023 – Mix It All Up from Portsmouth, UK
Italian post-rock instrumental music project Radar 5:11 recently released this anthemic track ‘Hopes of Tomorrow‘. It’s a dark track with melodies and atmospheric sounds that intertwine to tell a story without words, this then builds into something truly epic as the track progresses.

22nd March 2023 – Tome To The Weather Machine from Cincinnati, US

The post-rock band creates an enormously dynamic sound, building and breaking apart into new shapes and configurations as the track swells and bursts apart. There is a distinct melancholy feel to the track that eventually breaks into triumphant revelry. Like all good post-rock tracks should.

And then, on Tuesday 14th March, something else unexpected happened: Stefano “Cocco” Covili, during his show Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space on Radio Antenna 1, broadcasted Wad and commented on it as follows:
We’re talking about things that draw from the imagery and aesthetic canons of post-rock. You know how attached I am to these sounds, but even more so when they manage to express some personality, a personal stylistic imprint. In recent years, post-rock hasn’t been able to renew itself much, so finding a band that succeeds in this endeavor is fantastic news. Truly a delightful surprise, I hope to be able to see them live sooner or later.

Our pride has consequently been greatly inflated. In fact, for some of us, Radio Antenna 1 is more important than any other national radio: during our formative years, without the programming of that station, we wouldn’t have developed the musical “taste” we have today. Serve un grande ringraziamento per gli organizzatori della Festa de L’Unità e del Concentrico Festival per averci invitato sui rispettivi palchi.
Sono stati due eventi molto divertenti, dove ci siamo sentiti completamente liberi nelle nostre performance.
E un altro immenso ringraziamento a tutti gli amici, vecchi e nuovi, presenti sotto ai palchi. Il calore, l’entusiasmo, le vibrazioni che percepiamo durante i live sono fondamentali per la vita stessa dei nostri brani e dei nostri suoni.

Mattia Medici ha curato le splendide foto che hanno immortalato alcuni momenti del concerto al Parco della Cappuccina (non ci abitueremo mai a certi scatti), mentre Giuseppe Tinnirello è riuscito a trovare luci e colori dove noi vedevamo solo neon.

A big thank you goes out to the organizers of the Festa de L’Unità and Concentrico Festival for inviting us to their respective stages. It was two incredibly enjoyable events where we felt completely free in our performances.

Another immense thank you goes to all the friends, old and new, who were present below the stages. The warmth, enthusiasm, and vibrations we feel during our live shows are essential to the very life of our songs and sounds.

Mattia Medici took care of the splendid photos that captured some moments of the concert at Parco della Cappuccina (we will never get used to such shots), while Giuseppe Tinnirello found lights and colors where we saw neon only.

Lunedì 29 giugno, Manu e Pit sono stati ospiti durante la trasmissione When the music is cover di Radio Antenna Uno, condotta da Diego Cortese. La trasmissione è stata un’occasione bellissima per dialogare di musica, film, ambiente, arte, sogni, desideri, progetti… Una intervista sui generis, un saltare da un tema all’altro grazie a clip di film (proposti da Stefano, assente per un problema lavorativo): non è possibile riassumere quell’ora in diretta via etere con poche parole scritte. Quindi non lo faremo. Ascoltatela e, se vi va, fateci sapere che ne pensate.

On Monday, June 29th, Manu and Pit were guests on the radio show When the music is cover on Radio Antenna Uno, hosted by Diego Cortese. The show (obviously, completely in Italian) was a wonderful opportunity to discuss music, movies, the environment, art, dreams, desires, and projects. It was a unique interview, jumping from one topic to another with the help of film clips (suggested by Stefano, who was absent due to work issues). It is impossible to summarize that live hour on the airwaves in a few written words, so we won’t do it. Listen to it, and if you’d like, let us know what you think.

Nuovo episodio del nostro podcast, con due sezioni.

Nella prima parte, Marco racconta la sua intima passione per la chitarra elettrica. Anzi, per le chitarre elettriche: talmente appassionato che sa come costruirle, partendo da tre assi di legno.

La seconda parte, invece, è la registrazione fatta giovedì 4 maggio al bar di Jacopo: abbiamo incontrato i Babel Fish, un gruppo post-rock di Modena. Quattro ragazzi di 30 anni con la stessa nostra passione per la composizione, le sonorità delle chitarre elettriche e le pause di silenzio. Ci siamo visti per un aperitivo, abbiamo registrato con un microfono ambientale, senza alcuna scaletta o domanda preconfezionata.
Abbiamo deciso di registrare questo primo incontro perché crediamo che le parole e i pensieri che vengono messi in comune possono essere molto utili, quasi fondativi di relazioni potenzialmente rilevanti dal punto di vista umano e, forse, artistico.
Alcuni passaggi della registrazione sono molto difficili da seguire, c’è tutto il rumore dell’umanità di un bar in centro, con la clientela fissa, bicchieri, bottiglie, ghiaccio, caffè e rumori che arrivano dalla strada. Serve un po’ di concentrazione, forse con uno spritz o un negroni tra le mani potrebbe diventare un po’ più semplice.

Il risultato di questo incontro? Domenica 21 maggio suoneremo assieme alla Festa de L’Unità di Fossoli di Carpi.

New episode of our podcast, featuring two sections.

In the first part, Marco shares his deep passion for the electric guitar. In fact, he’s so passionate that he knows how to build them, starting from three pieces of wood.

The second part is a recording we made on Thursday, May 4th, at Jacopo’s bar. We met the Babel Fish, a post-rock band from Modena. Four 30-year-old guys who share our passion for composition, the sounds of electric guitars, and moments of silence. We got together for an aperitivo and recorded with an ambient microphone, without any prepared script or preconceived questions.
We decided to record this initial encounter because we believe that the words and thoughts we share can be very meaningful, almost foundational for potentially meaningful human and artistic connections.
Some parts of the recording are challenging to follow due to the background noise of a bustling bar, with regular patrons, glasses, bottles, ice, coffee, and sounds coming from the street. It requires some concentration, and perhaps with an Aperol Spritz or a negroni in hand, it could become a bit easier.

The result of this meeting? On Sunday, May 21st, we will be performing together at the Festa de L’Unità in Fossoli di Carpi.

Ospiti di Marco Acquafredda, i Radar 5:11 si raccontano

La vita è fatta di incontri e di scelte, di incontri scelti e scelte di incontro. Conoscere l’artista per mezzo della sua opera e conoscere l’artista in carne e ossa, voce, respiro, abbracci, sorrisi, sguardi sono esperienza molto diverse.

Incontrare Marco è stato diverso. È stato sorprendente sorprendersi, stupendo stupirsi di qualcosa di così naturale: attraversare le dimensioni tempo e spazio e tuffarsi nella relazione è di più, è oltre tutto ciò che la nostra mente sia in grado di architettare a partire da brandelli di informazione trascritti sulle piattaforme audio-video. Oggi è avanguardia. C’è dell’imprevisto, ma atteso, sperato, ricercato: movimenti in cui convivono padronanza e abbandono, senza protezione, come nella vera avanguardia. Siete pronti ad accogliere l’indicibile? Ci abbiamo girato intorno con tante parole, ma di quello si tratta. Ci siamo interrogati sulla identità musicale del nostro progetto e abbiamo lasciato una finestra aperta su quella di due di noi (Manu e Pietro). Da quella finestra abbiamo osservato la nostra generazione e anche le altre, tutte (?) alla ricerca di senso e di identità non solo musicale.

Ci siamo chiesti: chi può insegnarci a cavalcare lo spirito del tempo? Come la musica ci coinvolge, ci muove e commuove fregandosene delle diversità che pure esistono tra noi? In questo podcast ci sono dichiarazioni d’amore: i deboli di cuore sono invitati speciali, chi ha le difese basse capirà meglio di tutti, chi come i bambini sa ancora stupirsi entrerà con noi in sintonia. Niente di quello che sentirete è stato preparato né coreografato: abbiamo vissuto qualche ora così, a nervi scoperti per lasciarci attraversare dalla corrente, rispondere alle frequenze. Diapason umani.

Onde Podcast: what a show!

Life is made up of encounters and choices, chosen encounters and encounter choices. Getting to know the artist through his work and getting to know the artist in the flesh, voice, breath, hugs, smiles, looks are very different experiences.

Meeting Marco was different. It was surprising to be surprised, stupendous to be amazed by something so natural: to cross the dimensions of time and space and dive into relationship is something more, it is beyond anything our minds are capable of architecting from scraps of information transcribed on audio-video platforms. Meeting people today is the avant-garde. There is unforeseen, but expected, hoped for, sought after: movements in which mastery and abandonment coexist, unprotected, as in the true avant-garde. Are you ready to welcome the unspeakable? We’ve gone around it in so many words, but that’s what it’s all about. We wondered about the musical identity of our project and left a window open to that of two of us (Manu and Pietro). From that window we observed our generation and also the others, all (?) searching for meaning and identity not only musically. We asked ourselves: who can teach us how to ride the spirit of the times? How does music engage us, move us and move us by giving a damn about the diversity that also exists among us? There are declarations of love in this podcast: the faint-hearted are special guests, those with low defenses will understand better than anyone, those who like children still know how to be amazed will connect with us. Nothing you will hear has been prepared or choreographed: we have lived a few hours like this, with exposed nerves to let the current flow through us, responding to the frequencies. Human tuning forks.
