Sono passati 35 anni da quando si è scoperta la correlazione causale tra virus HIV e la malattia AIDS (sindrome da immunodeficienza acquisita).
La storia di questa malattia letale è costellata da innumerevoli successi: dopo le prime terapie, si è arrivati alla terapia antiretrovirale ad alta efficacia, poi alle terapie di nuova generazione. Oggi, in Occidente, acquisire il virus HIV non è più una condanna: la vita può continuare normalmente, grazie a farmaci innovativi e con pochissimi effetti secondari.
Non abbiamo un vaccino, vero. Ma negli ultimi 10 anni sono stati fatti ulteriori passi avanti, grazie alla ricerca scientifica e farmaceutica:

  • il più importante in assoluto, è la scoperta che le persone che usano correttamente le terapie, così da riuscire ad azzerare la quantità di virus nel sangue, non possono trasmettere l’infezione attraverso i rapporti sessuali (U = U);
  • la seconda più importante è la PrEP, cioè la “profilassi pre-esposizione”: le persone che si espongono al rischio di acquisire l’HIV possono accedere a una determinata terapia antiretrovirale, così da ridurre praticamente a zero le possibilità di incontrare il virus. La PrEP ha una efficacia pressoché identica a un ottimo vaccino.

Tuttavia, i passi da fare sono ancora tantissimi, in particolare è necessario mantenere elevata l’attenzione dei più giovani e spingere tutti a fare un test di screening per HIV: troppe persone non sanno di avere acquisito il virus e, senza le adeguate terapie, possono perpetuare l’epidemia e mettono in pericolo la propria vita.

Se non avete mai eseguito un test HIV, oggi è la giornata ideale per aggiungerlo ai propositi della settimana: il test è gratuito in tutti i centri di Malattie Infettive.

PS: non dovete credere a quegli stronzi dei negazionisti dell’HIV/AIDS. A causa loro, troppe persone non hanno avuto accesso alle terapie antiretrovirali e sono morte.
PPS: al momento, non abbiamo preservativi da vendere con il nostro merchandise, ma chissà che un giorno…

It’s been 35 years since the discovery of the causal correlation between HIV and AIDS desease (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). The history of this lethal desease is studded with countless successes: after the first therapies, we developed the antiretroviral therapy at high efficacy, then the therapies of new generation came on. Today, in the Western world, getting infected with HIV is not a life sentence anymore: life can carry on normally, thanks to innovative drugs and very few side effects.
We don’t have a vaccine, true that. But in the last 10 years we made even more steps further, thanks to scientific and pharmaceutical research:

  • the most important of all is the finding that people who use the therapies correctly, so to reduce the amount of virus in the bloodstream to zero, cannot transmit the infection through sexual intercourse (U = U);
  • the second most important advancement is Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, or PrEP for short: people who expose themselves to the rick of getting HIV can access a specific antiretroviral therapy, so to reduce the chances to getting infected to practically zero. PrEP has nearly the same efficacy of a good vaccine.

However, many more steps are yet to be made. It is particularly critical to maintain high awareness among the young, and encourage everyone to do a screening test for HIV: too many people are unaware of being infected and, without proper medications, they can spread the epidemic and put their own life in danger.

If you never did a HIV test, today is the ideal day to add it to your weekly todo list: the test is free of charge in all Infectious Desease centers.

PS: you must not believe those sick HIV/AIDS negationist bastards. Because of them, too many poeple did not have access to antiretroviral therapies and have died as a consequence.

PPS: to date, we do not have condoms to sell along with our merchandise, but who knows that maybe one day…

Italian Government sucks!

E niente, alla fine il governo italiano ha cambiato parte politica, ma non politiche. Gli accordi con il “governo” libico sono rimasti invariati: il governo italiano ha deciso che i diritti umani sono superflui, che è possibile seviziare, stuprare, uccidere. L’importante è che ciò avvenga sul suolo libico.

Noi abbiamo conosciuto qualcuno che è passato dai campi libici, in particolare S ha avuto possibilità di prendersene cura per qualche tempo.

Qualche anno fa, un ragazzo del Gambia è stato ricoverato per una tubercolosi polmonare. Era in isolamento. in genere, quando le persone stanno in isolamento, sfruttano il momento della visita medica per parlare. Lui no. Lui rispondeva a monosillabi, la visita medica quotidiana sembrava una scocciatura.

Dopo 2 settimane così, finalmente risponde a qualche domanda in più. Giocava a calcio, diceva di essere stato in nazionale in Gambia.
Un giorno, gli chiedo una cosa che mi aveva incuriosito fin da subito: aveva delle cicatrici quadrate sulla schiena e non capivamo perché.
“No man, I don’t wanna talk”
Passa un’altra settimana. E stavolta me lo dice: nel campo in Libia dove è stato rinchiuso per quasi un anno, c’era una guardia che, senza motivo, ogni tanto li picchiava con un martello. O uccideva con il martello.
Quel giorno mi raccontò del perché lui e sua sorella, orfani, scapparono dal Gambia e vennero raccolti dai trafficanti di esseri umani. Mi raccontò che tentarono una prima traversata, ma naufragarono molto presto. Lei morì, lui fu raccolto dalla guardia costiera libica e incarcerato in un campo.
Riuscì a prendere di nuovo il mare dopo che il lager fu abbandonato dalle guardie.
Arrivò in Italia, con la speranza di poter dimostrare il suo talento.

Il governo italiano è stato complice di quelle sevizie. E continua a essere complice di chissà quali altre sevizie, stupri e assassinii.

L’umanità è la nostra legge

A few years ago, a young man from Gambia was hospitalized for pulmonary tuberculosis. He was in isolation. Usually, when people are in isolation, they take advantage of the medical visit to talk. Not him. He responded with monosyllables, and the daily medical visit seemed like a nuisance.

After two weeks like that, he finally started answering a few more questions. He played soccer and said he had been in the national team in Gambia.
One day, I asked him something that had intrigued me from the beginning: he had square scars on his back, and we couldn’t understand why.
“No man, I don’t wanna talk.”
Another week passed. And this time, he told me: in the camp in Libya where he was locked up for almost a year, there was a guard who, for no reason, would sometimes beat them with a hammer. Or kill them with the hammer.
That day he told me why he and his sister, orphans, escaped from Gambia and were picked up by human traffickers. He told me they attempted a first crossing but sank very soon. She died, and he was picked up by the Libyan coast guard and imprisoned in a camp.
He managed to take to the sea again after the camp was abandoned by the guards.
He arrived in Italy, hoping to showcase his talent.

The Italian government was an accomplice to those tortures. And it continues to be an accomplice to who knows what other tortures, rapes, and killings.

Humanity is our law.

La guerra civile siriana è iniziata 8 anni fa.

È una guerra complessa, con tanti fronti aperti e tantissimi attori in campo. Eserciti piccoli e grandi che si contendono il controllo di città e regioni. Alleanze che quasi si fatica a contare, che cambiano a seconda della convenienza momentanea.

La guerra in Siria è un casino.
La guerra è guerra. E la guerra fa schifo. Sempre.

Piangono sempre i più deboli, i più indifesi.

Non abbiamo le competenze, e forse nemmeno l’intelligenza, per capire se ha senso schierarsi. E, soprattutto, con chi.
Crediamo che i popoli abbiano diritto di autodeterminarsi, di vivere in pace e poter prosperare senza la minaccia di essere bombardati.

Il messaggio che vorremmo lanciare a tutti è, probabilmente, un po’ semplice. Ma non per questo è banale, visto che le guerre continuano a essere presenti su questo bruciante Pianeta.

Don’t bomb, just love

The Syrian civil war began 8 years ago.

It is a complex war with many fronts and numerous actors involved. Small and large armies compete for control of cities and regions. Alliances are difficult to keep track of and change depending on convenience.

The war in Syria is a mess.

War is war. And war is always terrible.

The weakest, the most defenseless, are the ones who suffer the most.

We do not have the expertise, and perhaps not even the intelligence, to understand if it makes sense to take sides. And, above all, with whom.

We believe that people have the right to self-determination, to live in peace and thrive without the threat of being bombed.

The message we would like to send to everyone is probably simple. But it is not trivial, considering that wars continue to ravage this burning planet.

Don’t bomb, just love.

Festival ad Alta Intensità Antifascista – 1st Sept 2019

Raccontare in poche righe il Festival ad Alta Intensità Antifascista sarebbe estremamente difficile. Sono stati due giorni veramente intensi, dove persone diversissime hanno condiviso idee e pensieri e sogni per un’Italia diversa, migliore, dove non esistono esclusioni. Dove ogni persona è rispettata, dove lo Stato è al servizio di tutti e non solo per alcuni.

Lo abbiamo già scritto più volte: siamo orgogliosi di aver partecipato suonando le nostre idee, la nostra voglia di vivere e i desideri per il mondo dei nostri figli.

Il ricordo del nostro live, preceduto dal punk hardcore dei The Green Bengala, rimane vivo grazie alle foto di Federico.

Talking about the Festival ad Alta Intensità Antifascista in a few lines could be extremely difficult. Two really intense days, where very different people shared ideas and thoughts and dreams for a different, better Italy: a country where people can be accepted without exclusions. Where every person is respected, where the State is at the service of all and not just for some.

We have already written several times: we are proud to have participated playing our ideas, our desire to live, and our dreams for the world of our children.

The memory of our live, preceded by the hardcore punk of The Green Bengala, remains alive thanks to Federico’s photos.
